Day 1: Easy day. We made our way to the ranger station to register for the climb for the following day. Then we hopped on a 4 wheel drive which took us to the lodge where we stayed for our first night. 3 of us occupied a room with 3 double decker beds. It was very cold at night but I was too lazy to get up to grab my fleece.
Day 2: Wet day. We got up early to get ready to ascend. We were assigned a guide who did not know a word of English and therefore we did not communicate much. We basically followed him up the mountain, silently. Guess we did well, as we were one of the first to reach the lodge. After an icy cold shower, we warmed up with mugs of hot chocolate. After that we played cards, rested and slept early before we got up in the middle of the night to start our final leg to reach the peak to catch the sunrise.
Day 3: Early day and super wet! We got up around 2am to get ready to leave by 3am. It was drizzling as we started our climb in the dark. The rain started getting heavier and about 1 hour into the climb, it turned into a storm! The rain was beating heavily and we tried to shelter ourselves from the strong wind. It was quite an impossible feat as we were scaling a rock face. Another group decided to turn back while we continued on. A while later, as the rain got heavier and we got colder, K made the critical decision to turn back. I was in a way relieved as it was impossible to know what to expect next. We were thoroughly soaked when we reached the lodge again. Not a single piece of item was dry. I have never felt wetter in my life! It was quite an experience. Around 8am, we commenced our descent. After about an hour, K realized she left her passport in the lodge and we had to get help from our silent guide to run back up to collect. Luckily she managed to find it. After that we literally ran down the mountain.
Day 4: Last day. We pampered ourselves by checking into a five star hotel and looked around for the best restaurants.
