Other than a minor hiccup just before the trip, the whole trip to Beijing went very well. I was very glad i made the decision to attend my mum's graduation ceremony in Beijing though it coincided with a good friend's wedding dinner. On the night i was supposed take the red eye flight, i was told at the check-in counter that i wasn't booked on the flight and that the flight was full. I was supposedly booked on the red eye flight the night before and therefore have to pay a "no-show fee" of 150 bucks and take the first flight the following morning. It was a miscommunication and i have no choice but to pay up and turn back. The good thing was, the graduation ceremony was one day after! No major harm done.
I arrived at Beijing International Airport around 3 plus in the afternoon the next day. By the time i reached the hotel, it was almost six in the evening! It was because the luggage took almost one hour to come out. This was strange, as i have never experienced such a long wait during my previous visits.
I was so glad to see my parents when i got to the hotel. Immediately, my mum starting mothering me and made me honey drink and peeled peaches for me. It really felt good after the long and uncomfortable journey. After a quick shower, the four of us (bro arrrived Beijing first thing that morning) took the train to Tiananmen Square to take pictures of mum in her graduation robe. It was still bright at the Square as sun set after 8pm in summer.
All of us were dressed to the nines the following morning to attend the graduation ceremony even though it was a very hot day. Mum received her certificate on stage and we were very proud of her! Imagine, a PHD in Chinese medicine. This is a feat that i would never be able to achieve this lifetime, ha ha, not that i have the interest in this area. The camera i bought earlier this year came into good use. We took lots of pictures!
The trip concluded one day after the graduation ceremony. Although it was a very short trip, it was the first trip together for our whole family in many years and i treasured every minute we spent together.
